Volcanic eruptions have been an important part of Iceland’s history ever. With 130 volcanoes, volcanic eruptions are commonplace in Iceland. In fact, a historic eruption in 1785 lasted two years and wiped out a quarter of Iceland’s population.
Last year, Iceland’s volcanic eruption once again demonstrated its power to the world, the most famous being the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. For quite some time, it was a disaster in the European aviation industry, and the power of the Eyjafjallajokull eruption reminded us that as influential people we should have grand plans for things.
As the only watch company in Iceland, JS Watch Company decided to launch a special edition of the Frisland series of watches in honor of the volcanic eruption. The new watch, Frisland goð, has a dial made of materials from the newly erupted Eyjafjallajökull volcano.
The goð dial is made from volcanic ash using a very special technique. First, bright colors are applied to the electrified black dial, and then volcanic ash is sprinkled onto the wet pigment.
After the color and volcanic ash dry, polish the surface of the dial, but pay attention to showing the texture and characteristics of volcanic ash. Finally, the dial is printed with white hour markers and numbers and a red ‘goð’.
