March 14, 2024 –Kettering College has added a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) track to our offerings, and the first cohort started in January 2024. The curriculum is geared toward Nursing Leadership for nurses who are looking to expand their careers.
Kelsey Schweikert, RN, is a nurse at Kettering Health Dayton and is enrolled in Kettering College’s inaugural MSN class. She was the Medical ICU and Surgical ICU clinical nurse manager and has recently been promoted to Medical-Surgical Director of Nursing, where she is already applying what she is learning in the MSN program to her work and interaction with others.
She says she has been gaining a lot of helpful information from the first class, which has focused heavily on leadership styles, emotional intelligence, and behaviors. Kelsey says, “I’ve taken the opportunity to apply my knowledge to my everyday work. Fostering positive relationships and leading with transparency is important to me, and my first MSN class has already improved my skills.”
Kelsey chose Kettering College because of the faith-based learning environment. She attended Kettering College for her ASN and BSN degrees. She says, “I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. The close connection with the professors and their willingness to always help and be engaged is important to me.”
The MSN degree at Kettering College requires a minimum of 39 credit hours and 460 clinical hours. All MSN courses must be taken at Kettering College, and it is designed as a two-year program, including a total of six semesters. It is a cohort-based program with two entry points planned each year in fall and spring.
Jennifer Shull, system chief nurse executive at Kettering Health, says, “We are pleased that Kettering College has expanded its offerings to include an MSN program for our nursing colleagues. This training provides knowledge that broadens the nurse’s perspective and skill in caring for patients and leading and supporting teams. We require this training for our directors of Nursing because of the additional skill and competency it provides them to help them be more effective leaders. We are grateful for our partnership with Kettering College.”

Kelsey Schweikert is turning her education into action in her career as a nurse leader at Kettering Health Dayton.
